Meet Kelly Cook: The Heart of MALL Energy Home’s Sales Team

At MALL Energy Home, our people are the backbone of our success. One such standout is Kelly Cook, a home standby generator sales representative who has become a trusted figure in the East Texas community. With a 30-year career in public education and coaching before joining MALL Energy Home, Kelly brings a unique blend of leadership, relationship-building skills, and a heartfelt dedication to helping homeowners find reliable power solutions.

We sat down with Kelly to learn more about his journey, his approach to serving customers, and what makes his role at MALL Energy Home so rewarding.

Q&A with Kelly Cook: MALL Energy Home Standby Generator Salesman

Q: I understand you were a coach before joining MALL Energy Home. Can you share a bit about your background and how your coaching experience has influenced your approach to sales and customer service?

Kelly: I taught and coached in public education for 30 years, with stops at West Rusk, Tatum, Overton, Gladewater, and finally Big Sandy, where I spent 20 of those years. I was a Defensive Coordinator in football for 22 years and a Head Track Coach for multiple years. That experience taught me the importance of teamwork, building relationships, and giving your best effort—qualities that have helped me tremendously in this new endeavor.

Q: What initially drew you to selling generators, and how did your journey with MALL Energy Home begin?

Kelly: Funny enough, as I was finishing my last year of teaching and coaching, I started working on my real estate license. At the same time, I sent my resume to every generator company around because I was genuinely interested in generators and saw firsthand how they benefit people. Mr. Archer at MALL Energy Home was the only one to call me back. He took a chance on me, saying he needed someone to talk to people and treat them right. I told him, "I can do that!"

Q: What aspects of working in the home standby generator industry do you find most exciting or fulfilling?

Kelly: I love creating a plan based on customer needs, seeing it through from start to finish, and then witnessing the joy on their faces during the startup. That moment when the generator powers on during a simulated outage is priceless—it’s pure peace of mind for the homeowner.

Q: East Texas has a unique sense of community and character. How has living and working here shaped your approach to helping customers?

Kelly: East Texans are good-hearted folks who appreciate a fair deal and straightforward communication. They want honesty, and that’s exactly what I offer—less sales speak, more “tell it like it is.” It’s all about building relationships and trust. A handshake still means something here, and I appreciate that.

Q: What do you find most rewarding about your role? Are there any memorable customer experiences that stand out?

Kelly: The most rewarding part of my job is meeting new people and helping them. On three separate occasions, customers told me they chose MALL Energy Home because of me personally. They trusted what I said and believed in our company’s commitment to serving their best interests. Those moments mean everything to me.

Q: How do you guide homeowners in selecting the right generator for their unique needs?

Kelly: I start by gauging their interest and understanding exactly what they want to power during an outage. Then, as Mr. Archer says, "It’s just math." We calculate what they’ll need and narrow it down to a couple of options. Location and fuel source are also major factors we consider.

Q: In your opinion, what makes MALL Energy Home stand out as a trusted provider in this industry?

Kelly: MALL Energy Home has been powering homes for over a decade with unmatched reliability and expertise. Being locally owned, we understand the community’s needs, and people appreciate that. Our commitment to service and standing behind the products we sell sets us apart. Mr. Archer has built a great team, and I’m proud to be part of it.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to East Texas homeowners thinking about installing a home standby generator, what would it be?

Kelly: My advice is to focus on service and maintenance. Anybody can sell generators, but MALL Energy Home is dedicated to customer service and truly understands our customers’ needs.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Kelly: This is my first time working outside of public education, and honestly, it’s not much different. It still comes down to having a great attitude, treating others right, and putting in the effort. Building relationships and earning trust is the key—whether it’s with students or homeowners.
